About me
My name is Timo Schips. I am a seasoned freelance strategy consultant from Berlin with 25+ years of experience in brand and organisational consulting. Until 2014, I worked in leading positions at international brand and innovation consultancies as well as marketing, creative and media agencies.
As an independent strategist, I have been helping companies, start-ups and agencies since 2015 to position themselves for the future in an increasingly complex world and to proactively shape their future based on their own identity. The core areas of my work are brand and communication strategies, corporate mission statements, employer branding strategies and transformation processes for corporate culture and innovations / business models.
I have been a lecturer for strategy and innovation processes at Macromedia University in Berlin since 2024 and enjoy the discourse of questioning established strategy and innovation models and developing them further together with my students.

My principles – What characterises me and my work
Strategy needs implementation

The best strategy is worth nothing if it is not implemented. Strategy without implementation is a wasted endeavour; implementation without strategy is like poking around in the fog. Ideally, the two must go hand in hand.
➣ That’s why I think about the feasibility of my strategies from the outset and enjoy working hands-on in the transition from strategy to implementation.
Clarity & Inspiration

We live in a VUCA world (volatility, uncertainty, complexity and ambiguity). Business challenges and the abundance of communication channels could hardly be more complex.
➣ I therefore utilise my analytical and creative strengths to get to the heart of complex issues clearly and quickly turn challenges into solutions applying models and metaphors.
Collaboration with clear guidance

Silo thinking kills innovative ideas as soon as they emerge. New ideas can only be created by working together on different perspectives. However, collaboration and co-creation require clear objectives and guidance.
➣ That’s why I seek constructive confrontation and guide them in the right direction, e.g. in workshops with tried-and-tested tools and creativity techniques.
The big picture counts

I’ve been in the consulting business long enough and have seen many things come and go. Although strategy work is becoming increasingly complex and detailed, the basic function of strategy remains the same: how do I get from A to B as effectively as possible?
➣ That’s why I always start by taking a critical look at the task at hand, questioning possible solutions and looking for the most effective way to achieve the goal.
Openness & empathetic passion

Even as an independent consultant, you are always part of a project team. Mutual respect, shared understanding and the enjoyment of working together are fundamental to the success of a project.
➣ That’s why I don’t work in an ivory tower, but rather involve my customers with my open and approachable personality from the outset and on an ongoing basis.
Never ever stop learning

What is state-of-the-art today does not necessarily have to work tomorrow. New ways of thinking and methods challenge the tried & tested and question the established.
➣ That’s why I stay up to date, am fascinated by new things and use current technologies and methods such as GenAI, Design Thinking, OKRs, Lego Serious Play and Miro as a natural part of my work.
